Ethereal Memories WWDC22 Swift Student Challenge Winner

Storytelling, Illustration, Programming | 2022

One of the 350 winners of the Swift Student Challenge at WWDC22. This annual competition, hosted by Apple, rewards talented iOS designers and developers from all over the world for their innovative and creative solutions.

My winning project, "Ethereal Memories", is about someone who struggles with Alzheimer's.
You need to help Dona, the main character, to remember the faces of the people she loves, through activities proposed by them trying to help her.
Alzheimer's is a disease that destroys neural connections, starting in the hippocampus, which is primarily responsible for our memories. This playground is about metaphorically re-establishing those connections by spending time with those you love.
I created Ethereal Memories for iPad using Swift and the SpriteKit framework. It was my first time using Apple's coding language, and I completed the app in a week, which was a significant milestone for me.
I was responsible for conceptualizing the idea, designing the user interface, coding the features, and testing the app. This project was an incredible experience that helped me improve my coding and designing skills.
Ethereal Memories was inspired by my grandmother, who had Alzheimer's. As a storyteller, I wanted to find a way to express my grief and make her proud. Developing the app helped me come to terms with my feelings, and I'm sure she would have loved it.
I was proud to win my first WWDC with Ethereal Memories, which made the project even more special for me.
